Working mom

It is interesting to be the one who gave birth to Jude and the one who went back to work and Liz stayed home.  Some days, it is really, really hard to go to work and leave my little family here.  I still a few times a week find myself in tears either coming or going because I just want to be with my baby and my wife.  Some days, it is simple and I feel fulfilled.  I go to work and then I come home and spend the last hour or two with Jude and then I get a few hours to myself before I do it all over again.

The best thing about my job right now is the schedule.  It is all over the place which means I get mornings with Jude (and Liz gets to sleep in) when I work PM which is about 1/2 the time.  It does mean that I get up with him at 5:30am and get home from work about 11pm that night, which makes for a long day, but I just drink some tea with light caffeine if needed.

AMs are hard, but it means I get to see Liz in the evenings.  I only get to see Jude for a few hours at night, but he gets up early enough that I set my alarm for 5:30 am so I can get a shower in before he is done with his bottle and spend 30 minutes with him in the morning before I leave for work.

Does it get easier? Am I ever going to not cling to every second with my baby?  I feel every single second with him is important.  I wonder if eventually I will not be so intense about it.  I just love that little guy sooo much!! :)

On a fun note, I made Jude baby food on my day off.  We went to the farmers market and got sweet potatoes.  I got squash, berries, peas, and apples.  I made squash, sweet potatoes, peas, apple, apple pea and scooped it into little ice cube trays to freeze and then put them in bags.  We have home made baby food for a month and it only took a few hours!  I have been wanting to make his food for a while and finally did and he enjoys it!  Liz helped out and it was a nice little afternoon project for us to do together.

Little man is up, so I have to go!

A Mover and a Shaker!!

It’s official, Jude is crawling.  He has been trying so hard for such a long time and then two days ago he figured it out.  It was early in the morning, 7am ish and we were just hanging out in his room playing when he got up on his hands and knees and crawled across his room to check out a toy.  Then he played for a few minutes and crawled back to me.  It was awesome!  Of course I went and woke up S with the exciting news and we spent the next 45 minutes trying to get him to do it again, and whomp whomp, he wouldn’t do it.  So S had the genius idea to grab my cell phone, which he is obsessed with getting his hands on, and we showed it to him and then put it a few feet away and bam, he crawled over to it.  Now he is crawling all over the place.  He is very slow so far at it but he does a pretty perfect standard on hands and knees crawl.  And it also seems that in learning to crawl he has really mastered going from on his tummy back to sitting up or from being on his back to sitting up.  Of course he is also pulling up on everything.  I think that today or tomorrow S and I are going to go get supplies to finish baby proofing the house, before he picks up speed!

Not So Giant After All

Today we had Jude’s 6 month check up (even though he is actually 7 months already, erg, stupid Dr.’s office is impossible to schedule with).  The little dude clocked in at 18.6lbs, 27 1/2 inches long, and still has a tiny head!  We seriously were worried that the doctor was going to be like what the crap are you guys feeding this kid, he is huge!  But it turns out Jude is small/average for his age.  He was in the 25-50% for height and weight, and in the 10-25% for head size.  The doctor was also shocked by his mouth full of teeth.  Everything looks good and he took his vaccinations like a champ!  Then he came home and took a nice long nap, which makes mommies happy.

On another note, I just wanted to say thank you to all of our readers.  I love the comments and emails that we get because of the blog, it always makes my day.  I know I don’t often reply to comments, but I ALWAYS read them and share them with S.  You all are the best.  Also, to our fellow bloggers, thank you for being such a great community.  We love being a part of this whole gay family/TTC blog circle. We heart you!

Ok, and of course, today is Jude’s 31 weeks picture!  Such a cutie!

Life at 7 Months

Little boy-

I can’t BELIEVE you are seven months old today.  These have been the fastest seven months of my life.  I have now been a stay at home mom for five months and we have had such a good time.  Everyday you do something new, something different makes you laugh, you find a new obsession.  Today, in a effort to drink more water, I grabbed a few bottles of water to drink and you are obsessed with them.  You want drink out of them with me, which I have helped you to do several times now despite the mess it makes, you also want to play with the bottles, shake them, chew on them, you just can’t get enough.

You have also in the last few days figured out how to stick out your tongue, which you do with such joy that it never fails to make me smile.  You have learned how to make several pleasant sounds that involve sticking out your tongue as well.  I’m not sure if this new sticking out the tongue thing started because of how fun it is or if it just feels good on your mouth full of teeth.  And I do mean a mouth full!  You now have 6 awesome teeth, while most of your baby friends only have 1 or 2 if any.  We also have to be really careful of those little chompers because you will bite and it hurts.  You also like having your teeth brushed, which is cute.

Speaking of grooming, you need a hair cut right now.  You are looking a bit shaggy my son, but I think we will put it off just a little while longer.  Your hair grows so fast, just like your mommas.  You are so much like her, you both make the same expressions and you are both a bit moody.  But I do LOVE how often we get comments on how you look like me.  You are so cute that it is a huge compliment, also I love having things in common with you, like our dirty blond hair and our bright blue eyes.  It is pretty awesome that when people see you they see the best of both your mother and me all rolled up into one perfect little package.

One last thing, please stop growing up so fast.  The time is flying by and you are getting so big, so able to do things, so close to crawling, and I want to you stay just the way you are, at least for a little while longer.

I love you so much that it won’t be long before my crazy love will embarrass you,
   Mom (aka Liz)

California Dreaming

Our little boy isn’t feeling very good right now so I have my hands full.  I’d love to tell you all about our fantastic trip to California but I really need to shower and be lazy whle Jude finally naps.  So I’ll let a few of our pictures do the talking instead.
